Dare to Be Different

Dare to Be Different

While riding along I saw a palm tree

In the midst of a cluster of so many species;
It struck me as odd that a tree so different
Dared to stand taller with so little effort
And right then and there I learned a great lesson,
It is Ok to be different, an odd sort of person!

So I looked at my life with its myriad passions
And made it all right to follow the fashions
I’ve loved all my life but have often wondered,
If others viewed me as odd, so I have pondered.
I’ve decided God made me this way for a purpose
And it’s my life to live and I’m doing it right, I suppose?

It hasn’t been easy being so oddball and scattered
But I’ve done many things that often have mattered.
I have tried to be fair and consider all others
And shared what I’ve had without many bothers.
As I continue onward on this wonderful path
I have tried not to garner too much of God’s wrath.

So I dared to be different and a bit unconventional
But have tried not to cause hurt, at least not intentional
And I have studied and practiced and tried many pathways;
I have served and I’ve sewed and I have painted and always
Given my best to serve God, my Master, and care for the ones
He gives me to serve, and tried through it all to have lots of fun!

Destiny

When I have doubts about my destiny
And often wonder why I’m me
And could I share with those like me,
I wonder how to be.

Could I be brave and share with power
Or choose to be a craven coward?
Afraid to speak about God’s word,
Perhaps to those who have not heard.

Or hide behind some weak endeavor,
Instead of sharing with zest and fervor
The wonder of that wooden cross
And how it changed my life so lost.

It gives me hope and joy and peace
And makes me want at the very least
To share the wonders of all He has
With hearts so broken and lives so sad.

And leave with them what I have found,
A spot on heavens holy ground;
And help them see and run the race
Like me, a sinner saved by grace.

The Witness

The Witness
Lord, let me be a witness to someone today,
To aid some lost soul who’s been led astray.
Let something I say or something I do
Give someone directions to bring them to You.
It may not be much, just a bit of a clue
That there’s more to this life than maybe they knew.

Let me walk this old earth with Your mission so clear,
That everyone sees my Christ, who always lives here.
Here in my heart where I’ve asked Him to stay
And walk with me daily and show me His way.
The way’s not always easy, the Word sometimes unheard
But always He walks with me, having given me His word.

He’ll never desert us, though desert Him we may,
But all we need do is to ask Him each day,
“Lord, please guide me in all that I do,
Help me always to Your word to be true;
And finally lead me to our home up above
Where we’ll be surrounded by so very much love”.

Can you imagine! Our glory divine!
To live forever with Saints all the time?
To walk with our Jesus and see His great smile
And be perfectly happy all of the while,
And see Peter and Paul and Matthew and Moses
I can hardly wait for the glory that poses!

Another Rainbow

Another Rainbow (Thoughts after attending a memorial for 2 dear friends)

I saw a rainbow, Father, coming home from church last night.
I saw a rainbow, Father, so wondrously colored and bright,
I saw a rainbow last evening and it was such a pretty sight,
It reminded me so clearly that God’s love makes all things right.

I saw a rainbow beautiful, near as perfect as God’s love;
A sign of the great promise we can count on from above.
From the start of day ‘til evening, sadness filled our lives,
With many tears and memories, as we said to friends, "Goodbye".

From the viewing of that rainbow in a nearly cloudless sky,
You were telling us "Don’t worry, I am always standing by."
You pick up all the pieces of lives so badly shattered,
People grieving, saddened, lonely; struggling and battered.

A rainbow holds the promise of a brighter, clearer path;
Although we may be lonely and sometimes forget to laugh.
We know there will be sadness, some heartache and so much sorrow,
But God in His great wisdom promised us a bright tomorrow.

The Artist

Inspiration: The Artist
 His name is Robert, but we call him Bob
To try to define him would be quite a job!
An excellent artist---a wonderful friend,
With talents so many….there’s never an end!
One of the best is, he’s willing to try
To teach art to me…what a wonderful guy.

We first became friends through his beautiful wife,
Leatha, my friend, who added much joy to my life.
Many hours we did spend over bridge and our sewing,
And dinners and Church and coffee, not knowing
That too soon she would leave us all feeling bereft.
So we picked up the pieces and salvaged what’s left.

An artist I’m not, but I’m willing to try
And Bob is so willing his talent to ply.
I struggle…he’s patient… and willing to share
His wonderful talent with no obvious despair!
I often think we are such an odd pair,
But somehow, it seems we have something to share.

So onward I struggle with palette and brush
And try to paint trees and clouds and such;
I don’t expect I will ever amount to much.
But the artist is willing to keep me in touch
With wisdom and knowledge from his awesome store.
How fortunate I am…could I ask for much more?

Ah! But there is even more that we share,
There’s coffee, discussion, discourse and despair
For our Country and its need for repentance;
There’s religion, the Bible, and politics; each sentence
We disassemble the world each time we pursue,
And put it back together with God as the glue.

So the artist and I, this dissimilar pair
Have much to share of a world that’s unfair.
We remember when things were so much more steady
The world was our oyster, and we would be ready!
So, onward we go to our future unknown,
Just friends being grateful that we have been born.

Happy Birthday, Rita!

That Lady I Know!
 My friend Rita! Now what can I say?
To try to describe her would take me all day!
She’s certainly not young but then she’s not old;
She is not retiring and can be quite bold.
She was a young beauty and drove the men wild
And has done many things since she was a child.

As a mother she’s outstanding and certainly smart,
Her children accomplished and all works of art.
As a talented artist she has quite a trait,
Why, she even taught others how they could paint!
At bridge she is ever so much more than able
And even taught others at her own kitchen table.

Her talents are many, she willingly shares.
And wee small clothes she makes just ‘cause she cares
She is gracious and loving, generous to a fault
And when she met Emery, she was easily caught!
The life they now share is the envy of all
And we are glad to know them - they are a ball!

Now, there you have Rita, my friend and my pal,
A truly remarkable, fun-loving gal.
A treasure so rare and so very giving,
That many of us in her shadow are living.
We thank the good Lord for our Rita, so dear
And also for Emery who keeps her quite near!
